"More Pubs, More Castles, More Pubs, More Castles; and everywhere the beer that made Ireland famous"
|
2003 found Beer Club International touring the pubs of Ireland. It could be a life-long adventure just trying to visit each of them. A
beautiful island populated with pleasant and charismatic people, a country worth a return trip. And, soon.
The pictures here can only give you a small taste as to what you have missed if you have not yet made the trip.
From Galway to the Ring of Kerry on the West, to Cork and Midleton in the Central South, and finally Dublin in the East, cities were
dramatically different, even while being within 50 miles.
Be ready to learn about the people and the land (and yourself as so much American culture comes from these Irish), have your rain
gear in hand, and join us on our return trip.
Our wish for a bit of the "luck of the Irish" to ye.
Gus O'Conner's Pub, on the
road to Doolin's Point has
traditional music by local
artists, pub food, ready pints of
beer, and a friendly, warm
atmosphere.
Nolans, in Kildare, is another friendly local
pub where you can chat with the townsfolk,
listen to local musical artists, and
experiment with some new beers. Even
some of the old favorites taste a little
different, being brewed in Europe rather
than the USA.
When in Kilkenny, don't miss the
opportunity to stop by Maggies Pub. Great
pub food, beer and friendly atmosphere.
They carry all the major soccer matches
and have several televisions so you can
make sure you see the one you are
interested in.
Temple Bar is one of the most famous bars in the world.
Located in downtown Dublin, it is easy to find. Crowded
and noisy, this place is a party house similar to Delta
House in the movie. Multiple bachelorette parties came
through while we were there, dressed up in outlandish
costumes, celebrating the opportunity for marriage by
one of their group.
Farrington's, located across the street from
The Temple Bar, is a bit more upscale. You
will find the environment very clean, with a
modern lounge atmosphere. Excellent beer
- a wonderful place to visit.
Kilkenny Castle, only recently opened to the
public is in perfect condition. If you want to
see a real castle this is the place to go.
Malahide Castle is also in excellent condition and open for tours on a daily basis. Most members of the family were killed in the same battle. The story suggests that the Irish teamed up with the French to battle an English force that had landed to subdue its subjects. The French retreated without firing a single shot, leaving 25,000 untrained Irish to be slaughtered.

Unsure what to do after a long day of travel
and inspecting pubs? Do what we did and
take a little cat-nap.
